A Walk in the Park, Hosted by All Vets

All Vets have a mission to Honor the Fallen and Strengthen the Living. Mark your calendars for a Walk in the Park on the second Saturday of every month at 9 AM. This is not just a one-time event but a recurring monthly community get-together where we inspire each other to walk and get active at our own pace!

To sweeten the deal, we encourage everyone to see an All Vets rep at their first walk and grab a “Frequent Walker Card!” Every third walk you attend, you will receive a gift. Each month you attend, remember to have your card punched so that you can get your gift every third month.

Whether you walk a little or a lot, fast or slow, we hope you will join us for A Walk in the Park. It’s free to attend, and please share with your community!

Exhibit Opening Reception

Join Piedmont Arts for an opening reception in honor of its new exhibits from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 23 at the museum. A gallery talk will be held at 6:15 p.m. Complimentary refreshments will be served.

– Act II: Paintings by Gail Doyle Smith

Free Genealogy Classes

A series of four classes on genealogical research will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Bassett Historical Center on the first four Tuesdays in February 2026
(3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th). There is absolutely no charge for these classes. When you sign up for the first class, you will automatically be signed up for the other three classes. The classes are limited to 12 people, and the class has already begun to fill up, so please call the Bassett Historical Center at 276-629-9191 to reserve your spot!

If you are enrolled in these classes, please call the Center if there is inclement weather, as the class for that day may need to be rescheduled.

African American Read-in + Family Day

The annual African American Read-in + Family Day will take place from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 7 at Piedmont Arts.

Visitors can view books on loan from the collection of Joyce and Kenneth Staples. A craft for kids and snacks will be available. This event is admission free. All ages are welcome.

This event is held in conjunction with the National African American Read-in, a groundbreaking effort to encourage communities to read together, centering on African American books and authors. The initiative was established in 1990 by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English to make literacy a significant part of Black History Month. It has reached more than six million participants around the world.
